The rods can rotate freely, making it very difficult to get all six rods correctly aligned for insertion. Finally, while the speculum is easy to open by rotating the screws (even though you have to make more than ten full turns on all six screws to pull the rods by a single centimeter, so it takes quite a bit a time), it is much harder to close: friction between the rods and the ring prevents them for sliding.
This speculum is awesome, it gets very big and allows for maximum gape. It can sometimes feel like it's cutting you but if you take it easy it feels nice.
